Grace + Kathryn
(Geeky/Nerdy Wedding at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History)

Where do I BEGIN with Kathryn and Grace?! Okay, let’s begin with saying that for some of you, you aren’t going to understand some of the amazing quirky, nerdy stuff in this wedding and this blog. For the other part of you who ARE going to get all the geeky quotes, nerdy accesories, and nods to different fandoms—YOU ARE MY PEOPLE. So if you are into Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, comic books, super heroes, Mario, Pokemon, video games, Star Wars, or any other epic fandom out there, hold on to your seat, because you are about to fall in LOVE with this wedding and these two ladies!

First, I really, really want to say how absolutely honored I am to have been a part of this amazing day. All of the fun stuff aside, Kathryn and Grace contacted me for their wedding day after actually BEING in a wedding I photographed years ago. I was so, so sad because I was actually BOOKED for the date of their wedding! I was literally super bummed out. That is, until I got another email that said, “What weekends in October are you free?”

Then I realized, “Holy crap… they are going to change their wedding date for ME?” Once they told me the official news that their date was changed with the venue and all, there was MANY exclamation points and WAY TOO MANY CAPS in the responding emails. I’ve had people book based on my availability before, but I’ve never had someone CHANGE their wedding date for me!!

Second, I’d like to say that the connection between these two is so awe-inspiring. The best way to describe them is to say that Grace is more left brained while Kathryn is more right brained. However, they are both full of so much heart and appreciation for one another, it literally would bring tears to my eyes at moments during their wedding. Their first look was definitely a happy cry moment for a few of us, including Grace.

She broke into a happy cry at the sight of her beautiful bride, and Kathryn wiped away her tears. This is also when Grace showed Kathryn the sewn label on the inside of her jacket, bearing her new last name. Kathryn’s last name. It was how she surprised Kathryn to let her know that she would be taking on Kathryn’s name as her wife.

Oh god… who’s cutting onions at my keyboard?! UGH! BACK TO ALL THAT AWESOMENESS WE WERE TALKING ABOUT…

So this amazingly geeky, wonderfuly nerdy, bestest most awesomest wedding took place at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. How COOL is that?! The ceremony was held in the courtyard outside, combined perfectly with comic book shoes for the bridesmaids, orchestral versions of old school Nintendo themes, a Pokemon ring box, and a hand-made star wars aisle runner.

After the ceremony, the guests were treated to a cocktail hour with tables full of GAMES. Donkey Kong Jenga, Star Wars Operation, Super Mario chess… Guys, I really wanted to be a guest at this wedding. The reception featured each table devoted to a different theme/universe/fandom with centerpieces to match. My favorites included the Game of Thrones table (duh, if you know me, that’s a given), the Harry Potter table, and the Super Mario table.

And of COURSE there was a Harry Potter themed wedding cake (Always) which they cut to the song from Portal (“Still Alive” aka THECAKEISALIE), had a big screen hooked up to play old school Nintendo games (Dr. Mario FTW), and did their exit under the glow of light sabers.

…I really need to stop talking and leave you guys to the images.

Thank you, thank you, Kathryn and Grace. Your wedding has such a special place in my heart for so many reasons. THANK YOU for changing your date so I could be a part of this all.
